World-famous street art in Deurne gallery; exhibition of London artist Mode2 opened.

The artworks on display are created by world-renowned graffiti artists, attracting visitors from both domestic and international locations who come to admire the street art. It feels like being in a trendy gallery in New York City, but in reality, you are simply in Deurne. Unframed Art Gallery has been located at 37 Stationsstraat in Deurne for several years. Currently, the works of the world-famous artist Mode2 are being exhibited.

Last Friday afternoon, the exhibition of the London-based artist was inaugurated, with fellow urban artist Teach from the British capital also in attendance. Mode2 is a prominent figure and is considered one of the pioneers of the British graffiti and street art movement. He began his journey in the early 80s, when spray painting graffiti was still an underground and illegal activity primarily seen just outside of New York City.

Rock Steady Crew
In collaboration with several pioneers of the London hip-hop scene in Covent Garden, Mode2 founded the influential graffiti group, The Chrome Angelz. “That’s when I saw Malcolm McLaren’s Buffalo Gals video, where you see Dondi painting and sketching. Also, there was Hey You by Rock Steady Crew; in their video, they were dancing for graffiti as well. That’s where my enthusiasm for that culture began, and it took me away from gaming and such things,” the artist recently shared in an interview with Upmag about his 40-year graffiti career.

Mass audience
Mode2 is one of the first so-called graffiti writers in Great Britain to introduce street culture to the mass audience. The work of this urban artist is based on his personal experiences, ranging from love and relationships, desire and pregnancy, the environment, and the role of writing and hip-hop culture in society.

JEICO
This is not the first time that Guillermo de Louw has artwork in his gallery that is known worldwide. His father, has an extensive network in this scene because he used to “write” graffiti himself. As a result, the gallery in Deurne has previously showcased artwork by the Berlin artist JEICO, as well as street art from renowned names like Terrible Tkid and Atom One.

At Unframed Art Gallery, in addition to exhibitions, team-building activities and workshops are also organized, and various works and merchandise are available for purchase online. You can find the gallery at Stationsstraat 37-37a in Deurne.
